Carla Chait is a multifaceted South African artist, dietician, and literature graduate based in Parkhurst.
Blending her professional expertise with creative passion, Carla holds a Master’s degree in English Literature and works as a dietician specialising in Macrobiotics. She is also an accomplished author of the novel Floor 1, exploring life within Johannesburg’s public hospitals. Yet, it is through her art that Carla expresses her deepest truths and observations of the world around her.
Her recent debut at RedFest art festival showcased her unique artistic voice, featuring ink drawings inspired by Johannesburg’s graffiti and cultural artefacts, alongside her striking Agapanthus series—abstract silkscreen representations of South Africa’s beloved indigenous flower. Each piece reflects her commitment to capturing the beauty and complexity of local landscapes through texture, pattern, and form.
Carla’s work is driven by an intrinsic need to create. As she says, “Art comes from within me and is thus life-sustaining; without it, I would be less of myself.” Her practice is a testament to authenticity, resilience, and the harmonious integration of life’s many callings.
